What Can You Delegate To A Virtual Assistant?

By: Anastasiya Day

We are all very busy on a daily basis and we want to complete our work on time. Some people like to complete their work themselves. However sometimes there are just not enough time to be able to meet the deadline and you need to delegate some of your work! The best way to accomplish your work is to delegate it to your VA, as your VA will make sure that all your tasks are completed and up to date.

We are all very busy on a daily basis and I personally prioritise my work. Every week I check my calendar and think what is important and what is urgent. Therefore I am able to manage my time and complete my work! It is always a good idea to check what you need to do ahead, because it will give you a clear idea on what needs to be done and when.

There any many tasks which can be delegated to a Virtual Assistant.

Here are the examples:

  • Time consuming tasks
  • Tasks that you may not like doing or complete
  • Tasks that require someone to update it daily, weekly or monthly basis

Think About Your Work!

The first thing to consider before you can delegate your work to a VA is to track your time. When working on different tasks try to time yourself, that will give you an idea of what you are doing and how long it takes to complete.

Every time you do a different task, write it down, it’s a good idea to make a list to remind yourself of what you did during each task.

Once you’ve kept track of your time for a week or two, you then need to go back and analyse/check what you did.

I would recommend print out a report of your work so that you can write on it and make additional notes.

Make sure that you make notes of these things:

  • How much time you are spending on each task?
  • What you do not like doing?
  • What you can delegate?

If you think of other things add them to your list. Also, think about those tasks that you keep putting off and maybe these are things that can be delegated to your VA.

It will take sometime to analyse your work, however it will help you to make your decision on what can be delegated to your VA that will give you more time to either concentrate on developing your business or spend it with your family.  Remember that you VA will accomplish your work efficiently.

Are you working with a VA? Have you ever worked with a VA?

Such a great article Anastaysia,  it is wonderful to be able to have yourself work on the most important tasks of your business.  And to have assistance on lower value tasks but also important to your business. Keep up the great posts

Great summary on task delegation!  I also ask potential clients to think about which tasks they're actually comfortable delegating.  If they're not at ease handing something over, it may cause some friction or stress with their VA.  Starting with the small stuff and leading to more important tasks will create a smooth transition.

Hi Michele,

Anastasiya, I have just started working with a VA outsourcing the small jobs that I am not good at and don't like doing. I do however need to outsource more. Thanks for the information you have shared. :)

Great article, Anastasiya! And advice I need to take. Delegation is difficult for me when it's one of my own personal projects. (At work, not so much!) My worst story was hiring a writer whose entire work was plagiarized from a website. When I pointed that out and asked for a re-write, he took 2 weeks and resubmitted the work which was 100% plagiarized from a different website!! Needless to say, I fired him. I'll have to take a look at the services you offer… maybe its time for me to try delegating some of my tasks again!
